Because of all these "May the Force be with you" translations that Anakin Malfoy has been dishing out, there was a recent clamor at SWP for a translation in Quenya. I wrote to the TPTS Quenya master, and he kindly translated for us. He says:

"I cannot be sure regarding the context of "Force". There are actually two words in Quenya that denote "power". The first, vala, is actually power as bestowed by an authority, sc. Eru; the second, *melke (unattested, hypothetical, but a logical descendant of stem *mbelek-) is power as attained by force, thus the name Melkor. So by the two ways to interpret this in Quenya is either Nai i vala nauva aselye or Nai i melke nauva aselye."

U-l-a-n suggested that we also capitalize Vala, the word for power, since we use Force as a proper noun in English.



I prefer the first translation, because I believe that the power of the Force cannot be acquired by force. Or is it "should not be acquired by force"? In the case of most Jedi, the power bestowed by the Force is inborn, considering their high midichlorian counts, and then the ability to use it is developed by training. So it is bestowed. I believe, same goes with the Sith. I wonder how it was in the case of Palpatine. Palpatine intrigues me.....
