Started listening to the BBC Dramatization of "The Hobbit". Transferred about 3 episodes to MD. It's cool. I actually didn't feel the traffic because I felt like I was journeying with Bilbo and the dwarves. Trolls! Ack!

The Harry Potter Lexicon contains a lot of very useful information for Harry Potter fans, and I tend to read it when I'm online and have exhausted my usual list of websites to visit and message boards to check. :) My random topic at the Lexicon today is about old magic or ancient magic. Steve Vander Ark, webmaster of the Lexicon, explains that old magic is the type that is not cast using wands or spells from books, but rather, it is more intrinsic, it is part of the universe itself.
"It manifests itself from the true heart-felt actions of people and cannot be manipulated to ends other than those to which it is intended." The Lexicon sites the following examples of the use of old magic in the first four books: as long as Harry is with the Dursleys, he is protected, and not even Voldemort can touch him there; Lily's sacrifice created a protection for Harry that Voldemort and Quirrell could not break; when a wizard saves another wizard's life, it creates a bond between them, a "life debt". Intriguing. I guess we'll know more about this in the last three books. I hope.

Love is good and powerful ancient magic. It conquers all. Even "Avada Kedavra".

august afternoon and the air's aflame
softly on the breeze, thought i heard your name
this morning i'd have thought that it looked like rain
but these clouds have ways of playing games
