I guess I haven't really been paying attention to those Harry Potter trivia after all.
I thought "St. Mungo", for whom the magical hospital was named after, was just a Rowling invention. Apparently, St. Mungo was an actual person who was responsible for bringing Christianity to the west of Scotland (spot the Rowling connection!).
Recently, an excavation somewhere in Scotland unearthed a medieval building
"understood to have been built during the 14th century to supply pilgrims visiting the hill because of its traditional connections with St Mungo, whose mother was thought to have been banished from the hill by her father, the mythical King Loth, when she became pregnant." More on that excavation
here.
