More geeky mumblings
It's a pity sometimes money has to take precedence over cultural heritage. But I guess that's a sign of the times.
An American treasure hunter was recently charged with criminal cases by officials of the National Museum for unlawfully exporting (and trying to auction off) artifacts recovered from shipwrecks found in Philippine territorial waters. Apparently, this guy has worked on salvaging operations in 16 shipwreck sites around the country, and has already tried to escape with several thousand pesos worth of Ming dynasty pottery, but the Bureau of Customs fortunately caught him. He has managed to escape the authorities this time, though.
An interesting question arises. If this treasure hunter guy, who obviously has the money to undertake these expensive salvaging operations, hadn't come into the picture, would the government have found a way to fund those operations for the wreck sites to recover the artifacts? It would've been ideal if the government worked hand in hand with private entities in these undertakings. It's just sad that there are people who are really not in it for the knowledge everyone else stands to gain, but are in it for the money. =(

Went on a diplomatic mission for the
Republic yesterday with
my Jedi protector. It was a fairly fruitful mission, although my feet really hurt now.
